How hydrogen plays a convenient, effective and sustainable role in the anti-aging, health and beauty process.

Japanese medical and beauty experts in 2015 who specialize in hydrogen studies said it was the “Hydrogen Year” It was the beginning of the increased application of hydrogen in the medical and beauty world. Previous to this it had only been applied to the environmental and energy sector.

In 2106, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (Japan’s major department who regulates the national medical system) approved the listing of 2% - concentration of hydrogen inhalation into Japan’s “Class-B Advanced Medical Treatment” system. It was the first use of Hydrogen into the medical treatment area and was and is still used for cardiac arrest patients. Patients inhaled hydrogen during cardiac resuscitation which helps to enhance brain functions and speed up the recovery process. Hydrogen inhalation is becoming too be known as a new revolution in naturopathy.

Hydrogen therapy has continued to gain more traction and confidence in Japan’s medical and beauty industries. It application fits many types of various categories of people. The main application methods of the use of Hydrogen Therapy include: inhalation, drinking, bathing and soaking.

In Japan and now many other parts of the world believe the major effects of hydrogen treatment are as an anti-oxidant and for anti-aging. Additionally, now also the curing of chronical disease and cancer, as well as improving appearance and health. At Massage Wellbeing we make no therapeutic claims for the use of hydrogen, however are the Japanese that stupid and gullible. I don’t think so!

Application Mechanism of Hydrogen

To understand one of the main working mechanisms of hydrogen, we first need to look and understand what mitochondrion is. They are membrane-bound cell organelles (mitochondria, more than one) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell's biochemical reactions. The chemical energy produced by the mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Therefore, it is known to be called the “power house” of the body.

In addition to supplying energy to the cells in the body, mitochondrion also is involved with other processors. These include such things as cell differentiation, cell information transfer and cell apoptosis. This is the mechanism that regulates cell growth and cell cycles.

The human body is amazing piece of equipment and is similar to a huge chemical factory. The nutrients consumed from food and liquids act with the oxygen from breathing to produce the energy that in-turn sustains life. It is the mitochondrion that supplies the body with the energy we need to complete this complex process. The volume of mitochondrion will automatically change according to the need of energy required by the body. People who don’t exercise for example, may find the amount of their mitochondrion will decrease over time. With this in mind, the energy supplied to the body may also decrease. Subsequently, if the energy level is too low, the body can become weak and the immune system weaken.  The outcome of this is the body is unable to resist the attack of diseases and become weaker over time.

An amazing thing to understand is that over 90% of the oxygen that is inhaled into the body will be consumed by mitochondrion to produce energy continually. There are however often two sides to a story and oxygen also has its merits as well as weak points. On one hand, oxygen is used to produce energy however on the other it can cause issues during the process of oxygen consumption. During the process a very active midbody (the midbody is a transient structure found in mammalian cells) is generated. That result is a reactive oxygen radical, also known as toxic oxygen radical, which hurts the body and can cause oxygen toxicity. This process is called “oxidation” or commonly known as oxidative stress.  Next the human body needs to try and deal with this issue of oxygen toxicity. In fact, oxygen toxicity is believed to be the initial cause of human aging and also many diseases including cancer.

While producing energy with oxygen, the mitochondrion can be subject to oxygen toxicity. When a high level reached, the cell will die.

There are many other external factors such as sun rays, air pollution, smoking, mycotoxins and pesticides just to name a few, that can cause issues. These outside influences can influence the human body to generate more reactive oxygen radicals and trigger DNA mutation. This process is believed to be the origin of aging and disease.

The reactive oxygen radicals however do play some positive roles in the process. These include such things as enabling the immunity system and signal transduction. However, an overabundance of reactive oxygen radicals can bring negative influences including damaging normal cells and their structure. Furthermore, it is believed to be the cause many diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and cancer.

When people reach the young age of 25 years, the activity of antioxidant enzyme (which restrains reactive oxygen radicals) does gradually decline. This natural antioxidant substance of the body such as GSH-PX and SOD does show a slower synthesis speed. GSH-PX and SOD are the major elements that enhance immunity and prevent diseases within the body. During this process of the body’s natural aging, the content of GSH and SOD in turn decrease, which influences the regular function of internal organs. For example, the GSH content in the eye lens structure in an older persons are much lower than that of younger persons, hence the decline of eye sight over the years.

To conclude, if we want to change and slow the anti-aging process, we must concentrate on two aspects listed below:

  1. To improve the activity of mitochondrion so that they can supply sufficient energy to the body.
  2. Find effective ways to restrain reactive oxygen radicals (oxidative stress).

Anti-aging and Anti-oxidation

Over many years the SPA, wellness and beauty industries have tried many ways to deal with “anti-oxidation” and “cell rejuvenation”. There have been an abundance of nutrients such as resveratrol, tomatine, astaxanthin, and tea polyphenol to main a few. There have also been various additional medical level regeneration approaches such as immunization therapy, stem cells and others.

Well now we add another to the mix which is easy-to-apply, effective and with no known adverse effects. – Hydrogen and Hydrogen Power

Hydrogen has super anti-oxidant powers being the smallest molecule in Nature. The focal added bonus compared to other antioxidant’s, is the great permeability and diffusivity. Just by regular blood circulation, it can enter into every cell that normal elements (antioxidant’s) fail to. It is able to quickly penetrate into the mitochondrion and work to remove the reactive hydrogen radicals. This in turn reduces the cause of cell aging, damage and death.

The other added bonus is Hydrogen only targets the reactive (toxic) hydrogen radicals for reductive action. It has no effect on good free radicals which have physiological functions. With this in mind it will selectively remove toxic hydrogen radicals and perform an excellent anti-oxidant role.

Hydrogen is extremely safe, without any known toxic side-effects. The reaction product of the hydrogen and toxic oxygen radicals is harmless water. Furthermore, when all reactive oxygen radicals have been removed, the hydrogen will be expelled from the body in 10 minutes.

There are two different approaches that defines the strong anti-aging effects of the hydrogen molecules. Firstly, it is able to selectively remove the toxic hydrogen radicals which are harmful to the body. It is capable of doing this without working on the free radicals that the body requires. With this in mind, it alleviates the oxidative damage to the cells and plays an important part in the anti-oxidant and anti-aging functions. At the completion of this process, the inner part is purified and the appearance will also be rejuvenated.

It’s Second activity is it stimulates the endogenous antioxidant system of the body. This process in turn activates a crucial key to health called NRF2 (nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2) Next it mediates and stimulates over 500 important genes in the body so as to combat inflammation, resist oxidation, detoxify and protect the body against radiation. Most importantly, NRF2 can activate various antioxidants such as glutathione peroxidase so as to remove the surplus reactive oxygen radicals from the body. Additionally, it works on many other significant functions. During the activation NRF2, the hydrogen triggers the defensive power of the cells. This in turn regulates the activity of the endogenous antioxidant system, and increases the cells’ ability to recover from damage. As a result, healthy cells will resume and a healthy body results in a young appearance. So it is plain to see that the use of Hydrogen works on health and beauty to find a harmonious way of coexistence.
